A Prayer for the First Week of Lent 2016

A Litany Prayer for Lent, inspired by the Revised Common Lectionary for Feb 14, 2016, Year C

Generous God,

Our lives are constantly in motion.

As we move away from that which imprisons and oppresses,

You give us direction.

As we move toward that which gives us freedom and purpose,

You offer us hope.

In our transience, in our comings and our goings,

You hear our cries of distress and doubt.

In our wandering and in our waiting,

You see our hardships.

In the wilderness of life, full of tests and temptations,

You guard us with your peace.

When the journey seems too treacherous,

You promise deliverance.

Your ways are mysterious and wondrous,

Let us trust your guidance, even when we cannot see the way forward.

Your love is unconditional, and transcends the boundaries of our distinctions.

Open our hearts to accept your boundless love,

and deepen our compassion for others.

With whatever we have to offer, wherever we are, whoever we are,

We pause to give you thanks and praise.

Amen.
